Easy Configuration
Asterisk is the most popular and extensible open source telephone system in the world, offering flexibility, functionality and features not available in advanced, high-end (high-cost) proprietary business systems. Asterisk is a complete IP PBX (private branch exchange) for businesses.
Asterisk also benefits from a web administration interface that can be used to configure most of the key functions. Since this is a web interface 90% of the functions may be easily setup without the need of any Linux knowledge. Thus there is no need to call any PBX people and pay any extra charges to create an extension, change a name of a person on the system and many other day to day functions.
Asterisk is also capable of handling unified messaging. Meaning that, in the occasion a user is busy or unavailable, the system can prompt the user to leave a message and the operator will receive it as an email attachment in his mailbox.
If the asterisk server is made available on the internet (via VPN), it is possible to link up remote branches to the head office thus saving telephone bills when calling from one office to the other.
How SMEs will benefit from Asterisk PBXs
- Fully customisable via web interface
- Ability to link remote offices together
- Unified Messaging (linking Voice mail and faxes to emails)
- Easily to integrate with all carriers such as Sky Telecom, GO or Melita
